What is the rotator cuff?
Four muscles and their tendons guide and stabilise the shoulder joint. Injury or wear may partially or completely tear one or more tendons. However, a tear seen on imaging does not necessarily explain all symptoms.
When is surgery considered?
Factors include how the injury occurred, symptoms, strength, the size of the tear and tendon tissue quality. Your goals and previous treatment also matter. Not every tear needs surgery. A recent loss of strength after an injury should be assessed promptly.
How can the tendon be treated?
